Paper proposing that FU Orionis outbursts may be responsible for forming planetary systems more like the Solar System, with dry terrestrial planets located far from the star, while systems that don't experience FU Orionis outbursts end up as STIPs.

Are FU Ori phases standard for pre-MS stars? it seems to me the only way this would work is if the fraction of pre-MS stars that experience FU Ori events is comparable to the fraction of stars that lack the "hand-full of Mini-Neptunes in close orbits" planetary system architecture. I never had any interest in FU Ori stars until today so please forgive my ignorance.

From wiki
Quote :
The rise time of these eruptions is typically on the order of 1 year, but can be much longer. The lifetime of this high-accretion, high-luminosity phase is on the order of decades. However, even with such a relatively short timespan, as of 2015 no FU Orionis object had been observed shutting off. By comparing the number of FUor outbursts to the rate of star formation in the solar neighborhood, it is estimated that the average young star undergoes approximately 10–20 FUor eruptions over its lifetime.
