| Subject: Stability of Earth-like planets in multi-planet systems with gas giants 12th September 2018, 3:56 pm | |
| Agnew, Maddison & Horner "Prospecting for exo-Earths in multiple planet systems with a gas giant" https://arxiv.org/abs/1809.03730The current parameters in the NASA Exoplanet Archive for several systems are unstable, some of which have been re-analysed, though HD 133131 A and HD 160691 (Mu Arae) need to be investigated further. Figure 3 shows the various remaining systems... was interesting to see that HAT-P-17 and HD 187123 appear to be so destructive to HZ terrestrials given that the giant planets are quite widely separated from the HZ. If there are habitable planets in the 3:2 MMR with 47 UMa b, the local Milankovitch cycles may be interesting! In terms of detecting planets, HD 113538 seems to be the only system in which Earth-mass planets would be detectable with ESPRESSO, but more massive planets would be detectable in other systems. The proposed CODEX spectrograph would enable detections in more systems. | |
