Observations from white dwarfs suggest that asteroid belts/planetary systems are rare around stars above 3 solar masses, while stars below about 2 solar masses may destroy their asteroid belts during the asymptotic giant branch stage of their evolution:

There are several mechanisms that can contribute to asteroid belt destruction during the AGB phase. These include the interaction of asteroids with the stellar wind through gas drag and the YORP effect, both of which affect the clos-in asteroid belts around lower-mass main sequence stars
