Exoplanets in 2008 Empty
PostSubject: Exoplanets in 2008   Exoplanets in 2008 Empty1st January 2009, 4:00 pm

2007 was a landmark year in exoplanets with a total of 62 planets. In 2008, just as many were announced (63 were found in 2007 if you wish to count GD 66 b).

Exoplanets in 2008 Exoplanet_Totals

2008 Highlights
------
HD 40307 -> First triplet terrestrial planet system around main sequence star, b being the lowest mass RV detection to date (4.2 M_E).
HR 8799 -> First imaging of multiple exoplanets in a single system.
Fomalhaut -> First visible light image of an exoplanet.
HW Virginis -> First system around a main sequence eclipsing binary.
MOA-2007-BLG-192-L -> Lowest mass planet yet detected by gravitational microlensing (3.3 M_earth).
OGLE-06-109L -> First multiple planet system found by gravitational microlensing.
WASP-12 -> Shortest period planet (1.09 d). Largest planet (1.79 R_J).

Let me know if I've missed anything.

Also, note the number of HARPS planets announced per year
2004 - 2
2005 - 9
2006 - 6
