The discovery of an M4+T8.5 binary system

Useful constraints on the properties of the T8.5 dwarf Wolf 940B can be obtained from studying the primary star Wolf 940A. The brown dwarf has 20-32 Jupiter masses and a temperature around 570 K.

Yet even closer to Y-dwarf regime. Smile

And it's likely itself binary (spatially unresolved within 1.2 AUs). Am I wrong?

It states that it is more likely that Wolf 940B is a single object. The 1.2 AU limit is related to how wide a binary system could be to be undetected.
