Title Embargoed: Intentionally Blank

Author Block Jacob Bean1, E. Miller-Ricci2, D. Homeier3
1Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, 2UC Santa Cruz, 3Institute for Astrophysics Goettingen, Germany.

Abstract This abstract is embargoed. The text will be published online as soon as the embargo has been lifted.

It depends on the authors' names may be several options:

1) The results of the study of the atmosphere at Glize1214b

2) Announcing the planets discovered on CRIRES.

Two points:

1) If it is embargoed, I think this topic can be deleted and "re-posted" as embargo is over.

2) I hope it is something concerning nearby low-mass neighbours (Proxima, Barnard's Star or even a revisited VB 10).

Well the rest of the presentations in that session are about atmospheres, so I'd guess it is something about atmospheres.

According to Tweets from some people at the DPS conference, the title of the paper is

"ground-based transmission spectrum of super-earth"

I guess this is going to be GJ 1214b, given it is much easier to observe than CoRoT-7b. Wonder how it relates to the question of composition, the last arXiv paper seemed to favour Neptune-like composition.

It's being reported that
"News from IAU Symposium 276 in Torino: Bryce Croll presents finding from CFHT observations that the nearest transiting super-Earth, GJ 1214b, is more like a mini-Neptune. Transmission spectra indicate an atmosphere dominated by H/He but not a steam-rich water world."

This is another author (and the other telescope).

Something interesting in the Dynamics of Cats comments... maybe a conflict between the conclusions at DPS42 and IAUS276...

Quote :
We have used the Wide-field Infrared Camera (WIRCam) on the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) to measure the transit depth of GJ 1214b nearly simultaneously in J-band (~1.25 microns) and Ks-band (~2.15 microns) on three occasions.
Our Ks-band transits are deeper than our J-band transits, suggesting that we observe excess absorption, likely due to methane, near 2.15 microns.
Such a large spectral feature is only possible if GJ 1214b has a hydrogen/helium rich atmosphere, and a rocky core.
