Very interesting. I'm having a hard time interpreting the ALMA image(s) correctly. Crying or Very sad

Red : dust
Green : gas
White : the star
There’s nothing between the star and the disk : planets fore sure…

Pretty neat this one.

Question is what happens when you cross the streams...

Discovery of H-alpha Emission from the Close Companion Inside the Gap of Transitional Disk HD142527
http://arxiv.org/abs/1401.1273

Confirmation of the companion identified in Biller et al. (2012) "A Likely Close-in Low-mass Stellar Companion to the Transitional Disk Star HD 142527" - low-mass star just outside the edge of the inner disc.

This definitely seems to be a system to look out for, what with the discs around each of the two individual stars and a planet-forming circumbinary disc.

GPI detection of circumsecondary disk.

Polarized Light Imaging of the HD 142527 Transition Disk with the Gemini Planet Imager: Dust around the Close-in Companion
http://arxiv.org/abs/1407.7041

Quote :
Because the scattering dust is likely falling onto or orbiting the companion, it is possible tht this dust contributes to the total intensity that has been directly detected at other wavelengths. If this is the case, the reported masses for the companion (0.1 - 0.4 solar masses) should be viewed as upper limits only.
Quote :
If, on the other hand, the companion is a gas giant planet or protoplanet, then the light we see at Y band (and at other wavelengts) is dominated by the circumsecondary dust, meaning the true fractional polarisation would be small. This could indicate that the dust near the companion might then originate from the inner disk. This would suggest that dust grains from the outer disk are not following the gap-crossing gas. It might also mean that multiple planets are responsible for the observed wide disk gap, since photoevaporation is unlikely in this accreting system.
And lastly,
Quote :
The detection of the companion and nearby dust in polarized light in just 12 minuates of integration at < 0.11" suggests that ODD in concert with ADI+PCA can be a powerful tool for detecting dust around off-axis point sources. In particular, older planets with their own circumbinary disks or rings may even be detectable by current facilities like GPI in the coming years.

Marino, Perez & Casassus "Shadows cast by a warp in the HD 142527 protoplanetary disk"
http://arxiv.org/abs/1412.4632

The intensity nulls in the outer disc seem consistent with being shadows cast by the inner disc, which implies that the two discs are misaligned by 70 degrees.

Update on the orbital properties of HD 142527 B: seems to be aligned with the inner disc and unlikely to be responsible for creating the cavity in the outer disc.

Brittain et al. "The Planetary Luminosity Problem: 'Missing Planets' and the Observational Consequences of Episodic Accretion"
https://arxiv.org/abs/2003.11980

The paper suggests that the discrepancy between the occurrence rates of features in discs attributed to giant planets and the rates of detection of giant planets may be due to the majority of giant planets forming in a "cold start" process, with occasional episodes of higher-luminosity accretion.

They suggest that HD 142527 B may be a super-Jupiter planet undergoing an accretion outburst rather than an M dwarf star. The full Gaia dataset should allow a mass determination to discriminate between these possibilities.
