"The optical transmission spectrum of the hot Jupiter HAT-P-32b: clouds explain the absence of broad spectral features?" http://arxiv.org/abs/1309.6998HAT-P-32b was chosen as a target because it is predicted to have a large atmospheric scale height. The data are consistent with a flat spectrum, two possible models are suggested: one is that the atmosphere is cloudy, the other is an unknown mechanism to deplete TiO/VO to just the right amount. The authors consider the cloud explanation to be more likely as it requires less fine-tuning, and there is more evidence for clouds on hot Jupiters than TiO/VO, which have not yet been conclusively detected. Also there is a previously-unknown M-dwarf at 2.8″ from HAT-P-32. | |
