| Interesting stuff there, always wondered what's in M67, given the age and metallicity is quite close to solar. | |

| Looks like the results from this paper's survey: Search for giant planets in M67 I. Overview (2012) I expect that the planets are Hot Jupiters, though there might be the odd longer-period companion. It'll also be interesting to see how evolved the planet hosts are. | |

| M67 was previously thought to be the "cradle" of the Sun and Solar System, but a recent paper seems to confute M67 as the original open cluster where the Sun formed in. | |

| Besides M67, what other places have been thought to be the birth place of the Sun? _________________ Circumbinary sunset! | |

| AFAIK there aren't any other reasonable candidates. I'm not sure there's any particular reason to believe the Sun's birth cluster would have survived this long anyway. Depending on the dynamics it could even be on the other side of the galaxy, where we'd have no hope of finding it. | |

| The paper is also available via the ESO website. They have put up a press release here. | |

First exoplanet found around sun-like star First exoplanet? Are they serious? This is why people involved in astronomy or astrophysics should be the ones doing these articles, not any random journalist.

| It's a misinterpretation of "solar analogue". No need to be so elitist. | |

Never. Probably more of a literalist if anything. Thanks for the explanation.
