| Finally a new planet!! Not listed at EP at the moment. - Lazarus wrote:

Interestingly the star appears to be metal-poor. It is one of the closest known exoplanetary systems to the Sun. Unless any planet around Proxima Centauri is certainly detected...

Precisely =). Finally a reason to live again. - Edasich wrote:

Yeah, it says the next update to the EPE will be tomorrow. According to the paper, the separation between the planet and its host star make it an excellent candidate for astrometric determination of the orbit inclination. Perhaps in the somewhat near future, direct imaging might be possible. _________________ Caps Lock: Cruise control for 'Cool'!

| Yes but site still displays "Next update 3 September". However it's very sad to see only 1 new planet after nearly 4 months of total inactivity | |

| Yeah looks like he forgot to take down the notice, there have been updates since then. For example this one. | |

Ah come on, there's a second new discovery as well - new super-Earth around Gliese 176... (granted at the cost of the loss of a hot Neptune)...

| Only a correction in previous data. Not a newly detected planet. However, only 2 planets? All these surveys, projects claiming to be able detecting plethora of low mass planets, super Earths et cetera start sounding "bankruptcy".... I may be satisfied if next week's going to bring a 12 of new planets. But it's quite surreal... | |

| Metal poor eh? So that probably means it's full of gaseous or frozen planets and probably doesn't have much thats very close to it. | |

| From what I've been able to gather, gas planets tend to form in metal-rich disks, whereas terrestrial planets don't seem to really care what the metallicity is. _________________ Caps Lock: Cruise control for 'Cool'!

| Do we not already have a GJ 832 thread?? Yes we do. Merged. GJ 832c: A super-earth in the habitable zone http://arxiv.org/abs/1406.5587 - Quote :
- We report the detection of GJ 832c, a super-Earth orbiting near the inner edge of the habitable zone of GJ 832, an M dwarf previously known to host a Jupiter analog in a nearly-circular 9.4-year orbit. The combination of precise radial-velocity measurements from three telescopes reveals the presence of a planet with a period of 35.68+/-0.03 days and minimum mass (m sin i) of 5.4+/-1.0 Earth masses. GJ 832c moves on a low-eccentricity orbit (e=0.18+/-0.13) towards the inner edge of the habitable zone. However, given the large mass of the planet, it seems likely that it would possess a massive atmosphere, which may well render the planet inhospitable. Indeed, it is perhaps more likely that GJ 832c is a "super-Venus," featuring significant greenhouse forcing. With an outer giant planet and an interior, potentially rocky planet, the GJ 832 planetary system can be thought of as a miniature version of our own Solar system.

| In the PHL criteria this is a mesoplanet. The habitable zone is different for different teams.

| A bizarre paper. And maybe I just haven't had enough sleep. But the point seems to be that there's a stable region between the two detected planets, and they can't rule out a terrestrial planet in the area with the current RV data, ergo the planet exists. Originally I wasn't going to post it but the stability analysis might have some value. | No detection of additional planets at al,weird paperl not worth to even mention as potential earthlike planets can exist in almost every system | |
