Quote :
Five new planets orbiting G and K dwarfs have emerged from the Magellan
velocity survey. These companions are jovian-mass planets in eccentric (e 0:24)
intermediate and long-period orbits. HD 86226b orbits a solar metallicity G2
dwarf. The MP sin i mass of the planet is 1.5 MJUP , the semi-major axis is 2.6
AU, and the eccentricity 0.73. HD 129445b orbits a metal rich G6 dwarf. The
minimum mass of the planet is MP sin i =1.6 MJUP, the semi-major axis is 2.9
AU, and the eccentricity 0.70. HD 164604b orbits a K2 dwarf. The MP sin i mass
is 2.7 MJUP, semi-major axis is 1.3 AU, and the eccentricity is 0.24. HD 175167b
orbits a metal rich G5 star. The MP sin i mass is 7.8 MJUP, the semi-major
axis is 2.4 AU, and the eccentricity 0.54. HD 152079b orbits a G6 dwarf. The
MP sin i mass of the planet is 3 MJUP, the semi-major axis is 3.2 AU, and the
eccentricity is 0.60.

Ahh you bet me to it ; P

Interesting bit regarding a second companion to HD 164604:

Quote :
An additional linear trend of -15.9 m s^-1 per year provides evidence for a massive outer companion with a period greater than 7 years and a semiamplitude greater than 50 m s^-1 .

A really "eccentric" bunch (pun intended ) Smile

The Magellan Planet Search is starting to gain momentum.

horrible eccentric orbit planets! Magellan - 5 New planets Icon_mad

this kind of planet it's a pain for my eyes because most of eccentric orbit planets, if they are nearby of the habitable zone, probably make the orbit unstable for rocky planets on the habitable zone

There's like 300,000,000,000 stars in the galaxy. What does it hurt to mark 5 of them off the list of potential places to look for habitable-zone planets? Magellan - 5 New planets Icon_wink
Imagine being in a rocky driveway and you're looking for rocks with those fossil shapes in them. If they first couple don't have them, it's okay, there's still a lot to look at.

i know,no all planets in the galaxy must to be similar our solar system planets, the variety of exoplanets that make this planets so fascinating, some exotic one are cool too Magellan - 5 New planets Icon_biggrin

this exotic planet must have properties that we can't ever imagine, maybe some life on they exotic moons,i know that is unlikely but who knows...

in my thoughts most of planets on the galaxy are in circular orbit,by the statistics if i remember well, 20% of the star have eccentric orbit, and 10% with gas giant planet 5% of this gas giant are hot jupiters planet

well still 80% free for for rock planet in circular orbit

i think that a least 95% of the 300,000,000,000 stars of our galaxy have a planet because that is the part of the natural process of star formation...

Cool. New findings and eccentric planets too.

The only "outlier" is HD 164604 b, with "only" e=0.24. The others range between 0.54-0.73.
