PostSubject: Re: CoRoT Results   CoRoT Results - Page 13 Empty6th June 2011, 1:05 pm

I think they had problems in the pipeline. Their algorithms were not identifying all the candidates. They should have been more open with their data.

On the other hand, they seem to have far less observing support than, for example, Kepler. And for such faint targets you do need time in *large telescopes* for follow up.

They did come up with some gems though ...

Corot-17 b. First transiting planet in Scutum!

Transiting exoplanets from the CoRoT space mission XVII. The hot Jupiter CoRoT-17b: a very old planet

Quote :
We report on the discovery of a hot Jupiter-type exoplanet, CoRoT-17b, detected by the CoRoT satellite. It has a mass of 2.43 ± 0.30 MJup and a radius of 1.02 ± 0.07 RJup, while its mean density is 2.82 ± 0.38 g/cm3. CoRoT-17b is in a circular orbit with a period of 3.7681 ± 0.0003 days. The host star is an old (10.7 ± 1.0 Gyr) main-sequence star, which makes it an intriguing object for planetary evolution studies. The planet’s internal composition is not well constrained and can range from pure H/He to one that can contain ~380 earth masses of heavier elements.

Seems to be another example of a metal-rich star formed quite early in galactic history...

The age of the host star was estimated from chromospheric activity or asteroseismology ?

Wow nice. CoRoT-24 looks somewhat like some of the systems Kepler has been finding.

If the mass of planets corot 24 b,c will stay the same after confirmation like are now on EPE that will be very interesting.Confirmation will be coming very soon I think

Corot-20b is very interesting. Large eccentricity.
The age of the host star may be in error at EPE. They give just 0.1 Gyr, very young, and in this article

http://www.ox.ac.uk/media/news_stories/2011/110614.html

they point another example, Corot-18b, 0.6 Gyr, as interesting due to its young age (and do not mention Corot-20 on this point).

Corot-24b,c is a another gem !

I would like to read some pre-prints too. So far no paper has "popped up" at arXiv. :?

Neither for Corot-17 b which is already published in A&A

Quote :
The star's projected rotational velocity is vsini = 4.5 +/- 1.0 km/s, corresponding to a spin period of 11.5 +/- 3.1 days if its axis of rotation is perpendicular to the orbital plane.

Is this slow a rotation rate usual for gaseous planets? Does the fact that it is highly eccentric play a role in its rotation rate?

That rotation rate is for the star. The planet is probably tidally locked in a pseudosynchronous rotation.

Rumours of a CoRoT-7 d have circulated literally for years. The RV noise makes it hard to confirm.

Multi-object spectroscopy of stars in the CoRoT fields II: The stellar population of the CoRoT fields IRa01, LRa01, LRa02, and LRa06

Why are so many of the CoRoT exoplanets around F-stars, and not around K- and M-stars? Looks like a result of the stellar sample.

arXiv:1206.4037v1 [astro-ph.EP]: Doppler tomography of transiting exoplanets: A prograde, low-inclined orbit for the hot Jupiter CoRoT-11b

Interestingly this one seems to go against the trend of hot Jupiters around hot stars being in highly-inclined orbits. Maybe some hot Jupiters migrate inwards without violent planet-planet scattering after all?
